Adhesions are an often underestimated problem in surgery. They occur after almost every surgical procedure – especially in the abdominal cavity and on the heart – and can have serious consequences: Pain, infertility and organ dysfunction.
Adhesions can be an additional burden, especially for women with endometriosis. The disease itself promotes their development, and after an operation to remove the endometriosis lesions, which is often necessary, the risk of adhesions increases further. And these can significantly impair not only the quality of life, but also the desire to have children.
๐ฌ From practice for practice
Solving this widespread problem of postoperative adhesions was the vision of Prof. Dr. Joachim Laas. As a cardiothoracic surgeon, scientist and reviewer for renowned specialist journals, he was aware of the serious consequences of adhesions – for patients and the entire healthcare system. His specialist knowledge and decades of experience in surgery flowed directly into the development of the 4DryFieldยฎ PH adhesion barrier.
Prof. Dr. Laas remains true to this mission today. As Scientific Director of PlantTec Medical, he continues to research innovative solutions to constantly improve surgical care. His tireless commitment shows: The topic of adhesion prevention deserves more attention!
Let’s use International Women’s Day to talk about women’s health and make solutions like adhesion barriers visible.
